It's My Place in the Mountains

Fall/Winter RiverDance Newsletter

Lots have been happening to further shape the appeal of, your mountain retreat, where the Mountains Meet the Sky. We are grateful for guests who have made a return to our new RiverDance property on the ridge, and those who have found our hidden gem for the first time.

Some have said that our views are even more spectacular:  early morning fog that changes by the minute,  the sun dappling the multiple ridge lines, and the star-filled evening skies. All to be experienced from the Adirondack chairs on the knoll while taking in the warmth of the fire pit,  or enjoy the tabletop fire pit from the privacy of your own deck.  Be it SkyView or RiverHaven, all the comforts of home are yours to enjoy time and time again.  Dave and I are continually amazed by the beauty right outside our windows and feel so very Blessed to have made the trek from the mid-west to Marshall seventeen years ago.

National Wildlife Federation

On April 20, 2023, Bear River Lodge Community Association (BRLC) was registered by the National Wildlife Federation and the North Carolina Wildlife Federation as a community wildlife habitat.  As a participant in this nationwide project, the BRLCA is now recognized as a mindful steward of our natural wooded habitat and riparian waterway.  We will be the first community in Madison County to accomplish this designation. We owe Joy Coehlo a heartfelt thanks for making this happen!

As a past guest, this opportunity will directly benefit you, and your friends, as they plan a visit to RiverDance.  If you refer someone new who books with us, we will offer you a free night on your next stay of four nights or more.  Even better, the folks you referred can take advantage of their own free night on a stay of four nights or more on their second stay.  No bookkeeping is required on your part, we will keep track of the details.  The guests you referred simply need to mention that you referred them, and we will do the rest.

Nothing Like a Good Story

At Max Patch

This wonderful couple has especially graced our lives, over the last year, as the new RiverDance has taken flight.  They came as guests when we started, Callie and Dave’s new adventure.  Our friendship has just grown, and delighted when we see their reservation come through on our RiverDance calendar.  What guests enjoy aesthetically, has much to do with the gifts that they have shared with RiverDance.  All of the kitchen countertops were created in Bob’s workshop in Indian Trail, NC doing what he loves to do. We had an extra slab, so he created the high-top table in RiverHaven, so you can take in the view while enjoying your morning coffee. Other treasures have arrived, and Bob and Mia always take home our brochures to help spread the word.  Mia is also a creative artist, and her medium is pottery, along with using her skills as an assistant occupational therapist.   Great talent when it comes to design, so her hands are on RD too.  We landed up with extra windows from our build, so they made a trip back to Indian Trail, and now her pottery studio has a whole new look, and functionality.  Share and share alike, that is what life is all about.

At The Hot Springs Spa

These ladies have visited RiverDance a total of 14 times over the last 17 years, and are the strongest supporters of our Facebook Page.  Our bonds of friendship go back to when our oldest son first went to college, some 18 years ago in Vincennes.  The trek from Indiana to the mountains of North Carolina is lengthy, but the distance is not a factor, when it comes to a RiverDance stay. They leave refreshed, and ready to plan their next trip. The parkway, a soak in the Hot Springs mineral water, stopping for some Well Bred goodies, small town meandering, puzzles, playing cards, and of course breaking bread together.  Dave and I have always felt that the richness of our lives together are enhanced by sharing the wonder and majesty of these mountains with guests, who many times, become friends.

Just Hanging at RiverDance

These great folks are part of both of our RD adventures, and we are so fortunate to not only to call them our guests, but also close friends. We always enjoy being together, but on their last visit, the focus was a lengthy list of projects that were challenging for Dave and I to complete.  With two days of work, or should I say fun for Dave, much was accomplished to put the finishing touches on both SkyView and RiverHaven. Only a few things left to go this winter, and we will be in good shape for the spring. There was still time to visit, enjoy the porch, catch some fish, have meals together, and just be.  As Thanksgiving approaches, we are indeed very grateful for the sharing of their gifts and talents that enrich our lives.

Old Friends, New Memories

These two couples go way back to the day Dave and I were married forty-four years ago.  Andy and Rick stood up at our wedding and worked together for five years in the IT world. They just enjoyed being together, inside and outside the office,  and a lifelong friendship was cemented.  Though life interfered for a while, we now all come together for a monthly Zoom call.  Much laughter, story sharing, and catching up on life are exchanged over a very meaningful time.  Why stop at a Zoom call?  They came for a visit to RiverDance from Illinois and Wisconsin,  and we all had a blast. Our four days together went far too fast. Thanks, Andy for being our driver as we traversed the mountains. Rick’s photograph eye has graced our website (above image).  All felt relaxed after experiencing the tranquility of a RiverDance stay, and the majesty of the mountains.  Nothing beats laughter, treasured friendship, and heart-felt support for one another in our journey through life.

Wanna Elope or Just Have a Romantic Getaway?

elope

What better place to consider when it comes to a small intimate elopement than SkyView at RiverDance. You will be captivated by the rich shades of green from your deck, the ever-changing fog in the morning, and the brilliant stars at night. Add the soothing sound of the Big Laurel that echos through the valley, and you have a winning, along with romantic, combination for your special day. We have created a package (Scenic Retreats) in conjunction with Elope Asheville, to easily take care of some of the details to streamline your stress free elopement. If you already have a planner or officiant in mind, consider RiverDance.  Perhaps, you want to include an additional four other people to be part of your vow exchange.  RiverHaven, also on our property, sleeps up to four, and shares views all the way to Tennessee.

Many couples, may be looking for a place to spend a significantly meaningful mini-moon.  So, what does that really infer?  Typically, up to five days, it gives a couple a much-needed reprieve after an exhausting full-scale wedding, without dipping too much into valuable extensive vacation time. This option gives a couple of plenty of time to really plan for that much anticipated full honeymoon, be it weeks or months from when wedding rings were exchanged.

So, if smaller and simpler is better, and seems appealing to you, as you consider elopement, a mini-moon experience, or perhaps a vow renewal option,  please reach out to me at 847-809-3098.  Be sure to pass this information on to those within your circle who might just be looking for some different creative ways, as to how they too may make a RiverDance connection.

Be sure to pass RiverDance on to family, friends, and co-workers who just might want to be immersed in all the beauty that nature provides, so that they may have a mountain retreat to call their own. Nothing can replace sharing your own personal RiverDance experience to help spread the word. If you have made a recent visit, and want to leave a Google review go to www.riverdancenc.com/google.  As one guest reflected “This was a great experience! We absolutely loved it. Thank you for opening your little slice of heaven for us.”

If you haven’t looked at www.riverdancenc.com recently, take a gander. Lots of great changes, and views all the way to Tennessee with the same amazing hospitality. If you'd like to see some of the reviews of the new RiverDance, sign in to Google and go to Google Maps, type in "RiverDance Short Term Vacation Rental" and take a peek.

Thanks for being a friend of RiverDance,

Callie and Dave Wellendorf
