The FIBSUN project develops innovative value chains based on sustainable fibrous biomass, contributing to the transition towards a circular bioeconomy in Europe. This video presents the results of Pilot Validation Trials 1&2 on hemp (Cannabis sativa L.), one of the project’s key crops. Hemp is cultivated and tested under real field conditions, including pilot sites such as Bühl (Germany), allowing the assessment of its performance on marginal lands and its potential for fibre production without competing with food crops. This biomass is processed and characterised for application in bio-based materials such as insulation panels, lightweight composites, and acoustic solutions for the construction and automotive industries. These trials demonstrate the potential of natural fibres to replace fossil-based materials, promoting sustainability, rural development, and industrial innovation. |
