Products derived from cardoon fibers

Within the framework of the FIBSUN project, innovative textile solutions are being developed using cardoon fibres (Cynara cardunculus), a natural, renewable and widely available raw material. These fibres represent a sustainable alternative to conventional textile fibres, contributing to the reduction of the environmental impact of the textile industry and to the valorisation of bio-based resources.

Cardoon fibres (Cynara cardunculus) show high potential for the sustainable textile industry due to their natural and renewable origin, good adaptation to Mediterranean climatic conditions, and reduced need for resources such as water and fertilisers. These fibres can contribute to the valorisation of bio-based resources and to the reduction of the environmental impact associated with conventional textile fibres.

Currently, cardoon fibres are in a development and validation phase, with ongoing research focused on optimising their properties and processing routes to enable future textile applications.
