About FIBSUN

To address the critical gap in developing processing methods for emerging biomass sources and their business models, FIBSUN focuses on optimizing five bio-based fiber value chains through real-world experiments in cultivation practices and industrial processes.

This approach aims to tap into the potential of sustainable value chains, redirect focus to cultivating degraded soils, and address environmental issues. The goal is to contribute to the future of rural bioeconomy and industrial competitiveness by prioritizing sustainability and consumer needs.

FIBSUN aims to enhance production systems and ecosystem services from degraded soils by fostering five sustainable fiber value chains. Objectives include:

  1. Providing sustainable biomass for industrial biorefineries from abandoned or degraded land.
  2. Improving the sustainability of processing methods for hemp, wood, thistle, cattail, and reed fibers for construction, automotive, and textile sectors.
  3. Developing novel fiber substrates by refining piloted products based on user feedback.
  4. Enhancing the EU bio-based sector's competitiveness through resource-efficient value chains.
  5. Raising public awareness of the links between ecosystem services and use of natural resources.
