SAM NEWS & UPDATES

On 28 March 2025, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7, striking at a depth of 10 km, hit central Myanmar at around 12.50 local time. The tremor caused devastating losses, significantly impacting human life, infrastructure, and agricultural livelihoods in several townships in Mandalay and Sagaing states/regions.

According to the SITUATION UPDATE No. 10 – M7.7 Mandalay Earthquake – 23 April 2025 by AHA Centre, please kindly refer to the following highlights:

41,733 people are staying in 135 temporary shelters
About 207,000 people are currently displaced
At least 3,700 people are reported to have died
A further 5,100 people left injured and 116 missing

On 30 March 2025, SAM launched the "Hope for Myanmar" fundraising campaign to restore hope to communities affected by the earthquake. The campaign focuses on delivering emergency aid and supporting recovery efforts.

To engage international donors, SAM launched an additional fundraising campaign on the Give.Asia platform on 1 April 2025.

Batch 3: Emergency Aid Distribution - Donation of Drinking Water, Medical Kits & Hygiene Kits

Batch 4: Donation of Essential Food Kits

Collaboration between the Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) and Tongkang—a group of compassionate individuals from Singapore donated 450 essential food kits to the affected families in Mandalay and Sagaing Region. Each parcel—packed with rice, cooking oil, noodles, ready‑to‑eat meals, and snacks

On 17 May 2025, the food Kits were delivered to Saittara Village and Phalan Phoe Village.
On 23 and 24 May 2025, the food kits were delivered to 230 families in Ye Lun Kyaw Village, Mandalay Region, and 20 families in Sagaing

Batch 5: Donation of Medical Supplies to Mandalay Red Cross Society

On 26 May 2025, SAM donated medical supplies to the mobile clinic teams of the Mandalay Red Cross Society (MRCS) worth of MMK 14.5 million.

These mobile teams—three operating in the Mandalay Region and one in the Sagaing Region—have been providing medical care to communities affected by the earthquake. Their emergency operations began shortly after the disaster and are expected to continue through July 2025.

Batch 6: Hyegiene Kit and Essential Food Kits Donations

On 9 June 2025, with the generous donation from Gebirah Singapore, the team handed over hygiene kits to the Salesian Sisters to be distributed to young girls under their care in Anisakhan, and Pyin Oo Lwin in Mandalay Region and Hlaing Thar Yar, Yangon Region.

The kit includes towels, soap, detergent powders, shampoo, toothpastes and toothbrushes.

SAM also dondated 140 essential food kits to the displaced families in Chan Tha Gone Village, Mandalay Region.

We at SAM, together with our individual donors and corporate partners, remain deeply committed to supporting the people of Myanmar during this challenging time.

Seminar & Networking Event by the Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM)

We are delighted to share the highlights from our recent Seminar and Networking Event, held on 3 June 2025 at Melia Yangon, in collaboration with our strategic partner, Kelvin Chia Yangon (KCY).

The event brought together a dynamic community of professionals, entrepreneurs, and business leaders for an afternoon of meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and valuable networking.
