What I'm reading - As we gather with friends and family this holiday season, I really appreciated what Lex Fridman―Research Scientist at MIT―shared about disagreement amongst friends: "We can disagree and still like each other. Let's not conflate disagreement with disdain or hate. Debate with friends is essential for progress." What I'm watching - If you've followed the newsletter for awhile now you know I'm a fan of Duke women's head basketball coach Kara Lawson. She dropped some more wisdom bombs a few days ago: "Preparation doesn't guarantee a result, it guarantees growth. So if you think that because you prepared for something that that entitles you to a result, then you're going to be disappointed in life. Studying for a test doesn't entitle you to get an A. I studied for some tests that didn't get A's, and I worked really hard. Preparing for a game doesn't entitle you to win it. If that's the case and both teams prepared, then both teams should win it." What I'm learning - I'm learning that if you treat every opportunity like a great opportunity, some of them might be just that. Anticipate greatness and greatness you might find. What I'm writing - As we celebrate the birth of Jesus on Sunday, I wanted to review the book of the Bible that begins with these words: "the historical record of Jesus Christ." The nativity of the Messiah is perhaps the most significant event in human history, and it's why we celebrate this weekend. Here is my book review for the biblical book of Matthew. |
