What I'm reading - With the 2022 American election season approaching, a pastor in Chattanooga, Tennessee was inspired by the book 3 Practices for Crossing the Difference Divide to ignite change in his local community. The book suggests that, when confronted with someone who sees the world differently than you, the essential task is not to convince, or even come to an agreement, but to simply listen well. By facilitating discussion groups in the community, all who attended had to adhere to three specific practices, and it's something I want to forever remember when I have a disagreement with someone else: "I'll be unusually interested in others. I'll stay in the room with difference. I'll stop comparing my best with your worst." What I'm watching - NFL linebacker Demario Davis—now in his 11th season—is considered a leader on the New Orleans Saints. It's easy to see why when he said this a couple of weeks ago amidst a 2-5 start to the season: "When it's dark outside, somebody has to be the hope to remind people that the sun will come back up." What I'm learning - I'm learning that an unquenchable thirst to learn is more important than impressive formal education. Having both are good, but if I'm forced to choose between the two, give me the learner over the knower. What I'm writing - 25 Reasons Why Jesus Was Born is a primer on better understanding why Jesus came to earth and the extent of what He did for humanity. The book helps take our eyes off the usual hustle and bustle of the Christmas season and places them firmly on the greatest gift we could ever know: Jesus Christ. Here is my book review for 25 Reasons Why Jesus Was Born. |
