What I'm reading - In Farnam Street's weekly Brain Food newsletter, Rafael Nadal talks about why hard is good: "If you make an effort in training when you don’t especially feel like making it, the payoff is that you will win games when you are not feeling your best. That is how you win championships, that is what separates the great player from the merely good player. The difference lies in how well you’ve prepared." What I'm watching - During his weekly press conference leading up to an undefeated matchup against Syracuse, Clemson head football coach fielded a question about how his faith keeps him grounded in the inherent ups and downs of coaching major college football: "My faith gives me peace. Peace doesn't come from a scoreboard for me. Peace doesn't come from getting the answer that you want to hear. It never has. Peace comes from knowing whose I am and where I'm going to spend eternity. All the rest of it -- life happens, but it all comes back to that relationship and that peace from knowing Christ." What I'm learning - I'm learning that life is more enjoyable when I'm healthy and in shape. I'm also learning that it's less enjoyable when I'm unhealthy and out of shape. You only get one body - take care of it! What I'm writing - One good book, understood and applied, is worth a thousand good books consumed and quoted. This is why books are only beneficial if you have these two things. |
