What I'm reading - A good reminder from Microsoft that the weight of your words is more important than the volume of them: "Sometimes the quietest person in the room has the most to contribute." What I'm watching - Prior to hosting Real Madrid as immense underdogs in a UEFA Champions League match, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was asked where the expectation should be for the fans prior to kickoff: "My job is to stay even-tempered. I want our supporters to be dreaming of big games and winning things, I mean that’s the role of us as a football club. I am sure they get enough of their bubble burst in their normal lives on a daily basis, it doesn’t need me to bring them down and tell them, look, don’t come here too excited tomorrow because it might not go well. My role is to make sure they come bouncing in, and hopefully, we send them bouncing out.” This is leadership. What I'm learning - I'm learning that the greatest threats to consistency are boredom and impatience. Never get tired of doing the basics with elite precision, but have the patience to keep at it even if you do. What I'm writing - Every team, company, and organization would be better off if everyone understood their role and embraced it. A razor blade is sharp, but it can't cut a tree. An axe is sharp, but it can't cut hair. Scissors are sharp, but it can't cut wood. Know your role and do your part. |
