What I'm reading - In a recent pre-practice meeting, Jackson State head football coach Deion Sanders had a great message for his team: "If you’re a cornerback and you ain’t (made a tackle) since Moby Dick was a minnow but you can cover your butt off, I guarantee you somebody’s going to draft you. If you’re a back and you’re not a runner but you can catch the ball and move the chains on third, be that. If you’re a linebacker and you can’t stop the run but you can cover, I guarantee you somebody is going to see value in what you do. If you’re a deep threat and you don’t move chains but Lord you can stretch the heck out of that defense, somebody’s going to see value in you. Be that." Be who you are! What I'm watching - Jocko Willink is an author and former Navy SEAL. I came across this clip this week and love the simple truth behind his words: "If you only did what you were supposed to do when you were motivated to do it, that's leaving it to chance. But if you're disciplined, you go do what you're supposed to do. That's the way it works." What I'm learning - I'm learning that too often we turn to prayer as our last resort instead of our first and best option. As Luther once said, "I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer." We need to pray first, not resort to it. What I'm writing - The redwood trees in northern California are the tallest trees on earth. Among many fascinating attributes, we learn from them that when we share our resources, we all win. |
