What I'm reading - Jakob Ingebrigtsen—the reigning men’s Olympic 1,500-meter champion—was recently asked if the emotional payoff of winning Olympic gold had been what he expected: "The peak is really high, but also right after the peak there’s a big low. Because I’ve done it." This amazing article serves as a great reminder to push hard and enjoy the pushing instead of engaging in magical thinking that a win or loss will somehow change your soul. What I'm watching - Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was recently a guest on the I AM ATHLETE podcast and I really enjoyed this metaphor he gave: "One of the reasons I think people love the NFL so much is that it's the closest thing to March Madness. The best team doesn't always win. Whoever plays the best in that three-hour window wins. A lot of the things that occur are sometimes outside of your control, like the bounce of a ball here or there when the ball hits the ground and that ends up being the difference in a one possession game." What I'm learning - I'm learning that whether it's the sport you play, the company you work for, or the dreams you have for yourself, the world rewards you for value provided, not time spent. Work hard, but generate value. What I'm writing - Possibly the most enjoyable and enlightening non-Bible book I've ever consumed, my copy's pages of Holiness are marked up and down with notes, highlights, and lots of underlined sentences. There's some really good ones in here. Here's what I highlighted in Holiness by J. C. Ryle. |
