What I'm reading - J. R. Smith was a first round draft pick in the 2004 NBA draft and would go on to play professionally from 2004-2020. His latest accomplishment though, is an incredible reminder that it's never too late to pursue your passion. What an amazing story! What I'm watching - Craig Bohl—head football coach at the University of Wyoming—was recently speaking to a group of coaches and I love what he said about making players feel loved: "They still want to be loved. That's a word that we don't use enough in college football, or in coaching as a whole. They still want to be loved, and even though they may have these tough, strong exteriors, deep in their heart, they want to have somebody that loves them." What I'm learning - Punishment ≠ discipline. I’m learning that punishment is what you do to someone; discipline is what you do for someone. What I'm writing - When it comes to eliciting honest feedback from others, I've found many people are too nice to share their honest thoughts. They don't want to hurt your feelings, so they'd rather not divulge in anything other than the positives. But there's a really simple trick for this. Here's how to elicit honest feedback from people too nice to give it. |
