What I'm reading - I shared earlier this week an excerpt from John Wooden's classic book Wooden on Leadership. Wooden claimed he never scouted other teams because he felt time would be better spent on how his own team prepared. Lots of life parallels here! What I'm watching - Joe Burrow's advice to young players is terrific: "Don't have a workout and post it on Instagram the next day and then go sit on your butt for four days and everyone thinks you're working hard and you're really not. Work in silence. Don't show everybody what you're doing. Let your game on Friday nights and Saturday nights and Sunday nights show all the hard work that you've put in." What I'm learning - I'm learning that I shouldn't try to dramatically improve my weaknesses. If I'm not good at something, I definitely ought to work on it until it no longer impedes my progress, but the bulk of my time is better spent maximizing my strengths. I would say the same is true for you. What I'm writing - The short biblical book of Philemon demonstrates the important truth that when we come to God in repentance and faith, He gives us a new status and welcomes us as if we were Christ. And that is really, really good news. Here is my book review for Philemon. |
