Hi from CΓ©cile!

As a leader, you know the power of communication.

What if I told you that the most impactful communication takes place not in big presentations or through commanding language but subtly during "quiet" moments?

A quiet moment can be a small everyday chat with your team members, a short one-on-one discussion with your boss over lunch, or a coffee break with your team.

It's during those quiet moments that you can build trust and rapport.

Positive change is the result of effective communication and collaborative action.

That's why leaders need to hone in and invest in their communication skills.

"Wait a minute!"

On the surface, it's just three words.

But look a little deeper, and you'll find a powerful lesson about active listening - a skill that every great leader must have.

You see, when someone says "Wait a minute," they're not just asking you to pause.

They're inviting you to truly listen β€” to set aside your own agendas, biases, and preconceptions and approach the conversation from a place of curiosity.

It's a subtle - yet powerful - call to practice what I like to call "mindful response".

A mindful response is about being fully present and engaged in the moment rather than simply waiting for your turn to express yourself.

This communication skill is absolutely essential for a leader.

After all, how can you hope to inspire and empower your team if you don't truly listen to them?

    Active listening and mindful responses

Active listening isn't about staying quiet and nodding along.

On the contrary, it's about showing that you've genuinely understood and engaged with the other person's message.

It's about asking thoughtful questions, reflecting on critical points, and responding in a way that shows you've incorporated their input into your thinking.

      That’s a significant mindset shift.

But only through an open mindset and a positive communication style you can

      • Build trust
      • Open the door to deeper insights and more innovative solutions
      • Cultivate self-awareness and emotional intelligence - two absolute must-haves for modern leaders.

So the next time someone says, "Wait a minute," change your perspective and see it not as an interruption.

Approach it as an invitation to demonstrate that you're a leader who genuinely cares about understanding, not just being understood.

That's the kind of leadership that inspires teams, drives innovation, and transforms whole organisations.

A different view on leadership inspired by the recent US elections (no politics included)

If you struggle to bring more innovation and adaptability into your team or organisation as a leader, consider applying the Overton Window Theory.

The world has been watching that theory in action in the US lately, ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.

Developed by Joseph Overton, this political science concept illustrates how the range of acceptable ideas shifts over time, influencing what policies or discussions are deemed acceptable in society.

But did you know it offers a fascinating lens through which to examine leadership dynamics and organisational culture?

Discover how you, as a leader, can change the narrative within your team or organisation with the Overton Window Theory
