Supervisor Lindsey Horvath: Updates On The LA County Climate Action Plan

Los Angeles County has the boldest county sustainability plan in the nation. It is a roadmap to adapting to a changing climate over the next 20 years, guiding us toward a future with air, water, and soil that are clean and healthy; affordable housing that enables all residents to thrive in place; and a just economy that runs on renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. The LA County Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a framework for regional cooperation between city and county resources to guide LA County to carbon neutrality by 2045. How far and how fast can Los Angeles lower its emissions? Are we on track? Is it even possible? Join us for a CAP update with LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath to hear progress on sustainability goals, what targets we can expect to hit and when, and what it's going to take to get us there.

November 12th, 7pm

LA County Supervisor, Lindsey Horvath

Supervisor Lindsey Horvath was elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2022; one year later, she became the youngest person ever to hold the position of Chair of the Board. The five seats on the Board of Supervisors oversee the most populous county in the US and manage an annual budget of more than $50 billion dollars, making them some of the most powerful elected positions in the region. Supervisor Horvath represents the 3rd District, which stretches from the Ventura County line to Santa Monica and Hollywood to Sylmar and San Fernando. She is the first millennial, and currently the only renter, to serve on the Board. See the full plan Here.

SFV CHAPTER NEWS

November Election: Yes on Prop 4, Yes on Local Measure GG

Prop 4 Discussion with Q&A Wed., Oct 23rd 7pm

Prop 4, the Climate Bond, will help California shift from disaster response to disaster prevention before the damage becomes too costly and unmanageable – preventing wildfires, providing safe drinking water for everyone, and protecting our forests, beaches, and coasts. Think this sounds like it might be good, but also sounds like a lot of money? Join us on Wednesday 10/23, 7:00-7:45 PM, for a virtual discussion on Prop 4, with time for Q&A.  We are lucky to have Marquis Mason, from California Environmental Voters, to speak to us about this important and much-needed bond. He will discuss how stakeholders came together to create the Bond measure, where the funds will go, and how this prepares CA for meeting the climate emergencies in front of us. He will also explain the economic impact of the bill.

Please forward to anyone you know who might have questions or be on the fence about this bond measure!

Local Measure GG

We are also supporting an important local ballot measure this November: Local Measure GG will improve local fire prevention services and protect wildlife habitat and open space in the areas of Encino, Tarzana, and Woodland Hills/Calabasas.

Please consider putting up a yard sign in favor of one or both of these measures! They may be under the radar, but they're crucial to our climate resilience as we face the effect of climate change. Email here if you'd like a yard sign today!
