Help Choose Our Meeting Topics!

It's time to think about what we want to focus on at next year's chapter meetings. Want to learn about the latest in battery storage technology? Curious whether LADWP is on track to provide carbon-free energy by 2030? Need help understanding green banking and how to divest from fossil fuels? Fill out our survey to tell us which climate topics you're interested in, or suggest your own ideas!

Take The 2 Minute Survey Here!

Choose all topics you're interested in. Use the 'Other' section to tell us what else you'd like to learn more about. We've gotten some good suggestions so far, but there's still time for more! The survey will remain open through our chapter meeting on Oct 8.

No Time To Waste: Turning Ideas Into Action

Join us for an Action Meeting on Oct 8th centered all around waste! We'll tackle the waste in our own lives, from plastics to food to energy to paper. Share ideas for habits and products that work for you and hear what's working for others. Learn how to influence the businesses in your community to reduce waste. Some actions we'll take together on the spot; others we'll share resources for so you can make changes going forward. Let's put the ideas from Total Garbage into practice--together!

Tour the Ridwell Recycling Facility with Us!

Ridwell_stuff
Our chapter has arranged a tour of the Ridwell Recycling Facility in Van Nuys. Ridwell is a recycling service that has recently expanded to Los Angeles; they pick up hard-to-recycle items that LA Sanitation can't accept in the blue bins, like plastic bags, multilayer plastics (e.g. chip bags, pet food bags, etc), light bulbs, batteries, and more. Then, they work with local partners to make sure items get recycled or reused right here in LA.

Curious how that works and want to see for yourself? Join us for a one-hour tour and get all your questions answered! Limited space available; email climatereality.sfv@gmail.com to reserve a spot on the tour.

November Election: Yes on Prop 4, Yes on Local Measure GG

We've got some important ballot measures on this November's ballot. Prop 4, the Climate Bond, will help California shift from disaster response to disaster prevention before the damage becomes too costly and unmanageable – preventing wildfires, providing safe drinking water for everyone, and protecting our forests, beaches, and coasts. Local Measure GG will improve local fire prevention services and protect wildlife habitat and open space in the areas of Encino, Tarzana, and Woodland Hills/Calabasas.

Please consider putting up a yard sign in favor of one or both of these measures! They may be under the radar, but they're crucial to our climate resilience as we face the effects of climate change. Email climatereality.sfv@gmail.com to request a yard sign today!

Artificial Turf Task Force

THANK YOU to everyone who wrote in to support LA's artificial turf motion! As a result, the City Council unanimously passed...a substitute artificial turf motion with many of the same components, but some weakened provisions. We're still hopeful this will lay the groundwork for our ultimate goal: a full ban on artificial turf.

This battle won’t be easy; it takes a lot of work and outreach to change minds and policy! If you'd like to get involved in this effort, contact Terry Saucier at terry.climatereality.sfv@gmail.com.
