SFVCR Chapter Chair to Pass the Torch

After a fantastic five and a half years at the helm, Founder and Chair, Diana Weynand,  is handing over the reins to new captain Sharon Ungersma. Watch for Sharon's grand entrance in our next newsletter!

What began in 2018 as a spirited team of nine Climate Reality pioneers in the West Valley has blossomed into a robust community of nearly 1,500 supporters. Diana's exceptional leadership has forged strong partnerships with government agencies and local groups to champion climate initiatives. In Diana's words, "It's been a privilege and deeply fulfilling experience to serve my community by leading this extraordinary group of climate activists. They've taught me unforgettable lessons about the power and strength of advocacy. Together, we have forged alliances that have sown the seeds of substantive change and have provided a space where anyone from the community can contribute to fighting climate change. While I may be giving up the chair, I'm not giving up the fight. I look forward to working with the SFVCR team to transition into new leadership. And I appreciate everything each and everyone of you do – every day – for our environment. Carry on!"

Sepulveda Basin Vision Plan Press Conference, June 17th, 2024

Senator Henry Stern (District 27) presented a check to Councilmember Imelda Padilla (CD 6) for $2.5M to support the next stage of the Sepulveda Basin Revitalization work. Chair Diana Weynand, who worked with other SFVCR chapter members on the project, said:
"It will take $4.8B to fund this project. But money is just one type of funding. Good will is another. Although focused on the heart of the San Fernando Valley, this Vision Plan is much more than a Valley project. It will benefit everyone in LA. But to do that, to reach its full potential, it needs to become "The People's Project." We need to educate and ignite all Angelenos so they can understand and appreciate what this transformation of nature can mean and be ready to support the Basin's restoration over the coming years. We look forward to continuing our advocacy for what we believe will become a beautiful, emerald gem in the heart of our community."
