Olivia Bareham is a teacher, healer, inter-faith minister, and death midwife. Her study of death and the dying journey began in the 1980s with patients dying of AIDS and has continued since, including through her own personal losses. In 2016, she partnered with a fellow death midwife to found the Sacred Crossings Alternative Funeral Home, offering a full range of green, conscious, and kind mortuary and funeral services.

Chase Murdock of is the Head of Family Experience at Earth Funeral, a licensed funeral home specializing in Soil Transformation. Soil transformation is a natural, eco-friendly alternative to burial and cremation. This new, gentle process (also referred to as “human composting”) creates soil that families can use for memorial gardens, spread in meaningful places, or donate to conservation efforts.

SFV CHAPTER NEWS & EVENTS

Join a Climate Changemakers Hour of Action

As part of Climate Reality's merger with Climate Changemakers, our members are invited to join their Hours of Action: one-hour meetings where the attendees all take an action together, much like we've done with our Action Meetings this year.

There is currently a virtual Hour of Action every Monday at 5pm PT on Zoom; sign up here to check one out!

The addition of Climate Changemakers adds a great new tool to our advocacy toolkit; they're experts at organizing meaningful action in bite-sized pieces that folks can get done in a short time. We're excited to take advantage of the framework they're bringing to Climate Reality in pursuit of our shared goals!

Legislative Win: Passive House Bill Signed Into Law

For those who enjoyed our March 2025 chapter meeting on Passive House construction, some good news: the bill written by our guest speaker Rob Haw (AB 368 -- Passive House Energy Efficient Standards) was signed by Gov. Newsom this week! This bill will require the State Energy Resources Conservation and Development Commission to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of passive house energy efficiency standards and submit a report by July 2028. A good first step toward shifting our building codes to be more efficient!

Save With Clean Energy Incentives - Expiring Soon!

There are still tax credits available for thousands of dollars in federal and state incentives to help homeowners get clean, cost-saving technologies – like EVs, solar panels, heat pumps, battery storage, and more. Many of these home improvements significantly reduce utility bills or operating costs over time, but the incentives are due to expire over the next few months. So if you’re due for a replacement soon or thinking about making a switch, now is the time, because it’s the last chance to get these cost-saving technologies at a huge discount!

Some resources to help you take advantage before time runs out:

November Book Club

"To think of climate change as something that ‘we’ are doing, instead of something we are being prevented from undoing, perpetuates the very ideology of the fossil-fuel economy we’re trying to transform.” -- The Language of Climate Politics by Dr. Genevieve Guenther

This fascinating book whittles climate politics down to six key words that have been weaponized to block climate policy, and then shows you how to combat them. Six words, six chapters, and you'll come away with a whole new set of tools for talking about climate!

Our November book club discussion will help us create a list of questions to ask the author when she joins us on Zoom at our November Chapter Meeting.

You don't have to finish the book to participate; if you're interested in joining, email Vice Chair Michele Ringer to reserve your spot.

Monday, Nov 3rd, 5:30 pm on Zoom
