Bridging the Gap: Our Intergenerational Sessions on Menstruation

Intergenerational dialogue plays a crucial role in fostering open and honest conversations about sexual and reproductive health (SRH), bridging the generational divide. This approach, rooted in mutual respect, understanding, and shared knowledge, empowers communities to dispel stigma and myths while advocating for comprehensive SRH rights, particularly in menstrual health management (MHM) and gender-based violence (GBV) awareness.

In recent sessions, we successfully engaged 47 adolescent girls and their mothers, focusing on reducing stigma around menstruation, encouraging boys to participate in these important conversations, and promoting male parental involvement in menstrual health management. This initiative not only empowers young girls but also involves boys in understanding and supporting menstrual health, paving the way for a more informed and compassionate community. VIAC remains steadfast in championing sexual and reproductive health rights for everyone.

Beyond Misconceptions to Legal Insights and Community Conversations:

VIAC continues to combat the stigma and misconceptions that prevent adolescent girls and young women in grassroots communities from accessing safe abortion information. Through the values clarification and attitude transformation approach, these sessions held with 54 AGYW,

shed light on Cameroon’s legal framework surrounding abortion, and other unsafe practices that lead to complications and sometimes even death, igniting crucial discussions within communities. This initiative did more than inform—it created a supportive space where reproductive health could be discussed openly, nurturing a culture of awareness and safety. VIAC is proud to continue leading the way in sexual and reproductive health rights, ensuring that communities in the north and southwest of Cameroon has access to accurate information and steadfast support. Together, we’re building a healthier, more informed future for all.

VIAC Empowers Communities with Comprehensive Sexuality Education

In a recent series of impactful sessions, our organization engaged community leaders in grassroots communities to advocate for Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). These sessions focused on building understanding around CSE’s benefits, such as empowering youth with accurate health information,

fostering positive attitudes, and improving decision-making skills. By involving community leaders, the initiative created strong local advocates who can address common misconceptions and

encourage open dialogue about sexual health. The impact of these sessions is already becoming evident: leaders are now better equipped to support CSE programs and promote a culture where young people have access to accurate, life-enhancing knowledge. This collaborative approach is paving the way for a healthier, more informed community where everyone can thrive.

Empowering Health and Equality through Digital Outreach

As the leaves turned and October unfolded, we embraced the spirit of empowerment and awareness at VIAC. This month, our campaigns ignited vital conversations around health and equality, reaching thousands across our platforms.

In honor of World Day Against Breast Cancer, our theme “No One Should Fight Breast Cancer Alone” resonated deeply, offering support to those affected. Simultaneously,  we celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child with the theme “Girl’s Vision for the Future,” uplifting young girls’ aspirations.

Our month-long initiative promoting men’s contraceptive use highlighted shared responsibility in reproductive health, engaging diverse audiences in meaningful discussions. Collectively, these efforts reached 6,527 individuals on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, advancing awareness and fostering inclusive health solutions within our communities. Together, we are making strides toward a healthier, more equitable future for all.

OUR EVENT

VIAC at Men Engage Cameroon’s AGM

In a significant gathering that underscored the importance of collaboration and advocacy, VIAC took part in Men Engage Cameroon’s Annual General Meeting held in Buea this October. This year, the network welcomed 11 new members, amplifying our collective voice against gender-based discrimination and for women’s rights.

Central to our discussions was the commitment to accountability and transparency, essential for fostering community trust. By sharing strategies to navigate local power dynamics and enhance women’s leadership, we reinforced our dedication to equitable change.

With Mr. Alaim now leading as chair and newly elected committees focusing on youth, women’s rights, and HIV/SRHR, our involvement in this network is pivotal. Together, we are not just advocating for sexual and reproductive health rights but actively shaping a future where equality thrives in Cameroon.
