Thanks for joining us...

A big thanks to all of you for taking part in the first-ever Ahotu Silverstone Run Fest. The event took place under uniquely challenging conditions and we appreciate the understanding and resilience shown by participants and volunteers alike on Sunday.

As we reflect on the race, we recognise the issues that arose due to the extreme weather over the weekend. Despite our careful monitoring of conditions and consultation with Silverstone Circuit to ensure safety, the storm still forced us to make several last-minute changes. These included moving activities indoors, removing flags and signage, and addressing slippery surfaces in some areas.

Thank you for making the event so special despite the weather, and for showcasing the true spirit of running.

Race Conditions

Unfortunately, the severe wind and rain impacted some elements of the event’s execution, and we wanted to explain how this may have affected your experience:

  • Start/Finish Arch: The strong winds prevented us from erecting the iconic arch for the start and finish line, which made these areas less visually obvious than planned.
  • Course Signage: High winds made it unsafe to use the feather flags we had prepared to mark pens and distance points, which would have made navigation clearer on the day.
  • Event Village Signage: The adverse weather also prevented us from putting up any signage around the event village. This affected the visibility of key areas, such as registration, facilities, and the start line, making it harder for participants to find their way around.
  • Delayed Start: The challenging road conditions caused delays for many participants traveling to the event, putting pressure on the car parks close to the start time. Although we advised early arrival in the pre-event information, we had to allow an additional 10 minutes to ensure everyone had time to get to the start line. We recognise this made the pens crowded and uncomfortable, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

Safety was always our top priority, and we made these decisions to ensure everyone’s well-being in the extreme weather conditions.

We truly appreciate your understanding and flexibility on race day and hope you were still able to enjoy the unique experience of running at Silverstone. Your resilience embodies the spirit of this event, and we can’t wait to welcome you back next year – hopefully with far better weather!

Course Recap - Half

We have received many messages regarding the route being measured as short. The course was officially measured by the Association of UK Course Measurers, and the route followed on race day was exactly as outlined in the measurer’s report.

As a team of runners who regularly use GPS watches, we understand the concerns raised by so many reports of short measurements, and we are taking this matter seriously. The course measurer has reviewed their calculations, believes they are accurate, and has offered to remeasure the route to verify the distance. We have also spoken to RunBritain, who support this decision.

Given the poor weather conditions and sections of the route passing through buildings or under tunnels, it’s possible that GPS devices may not have been as accurate as usual. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of an error in the measurement. The only way to confirm this is through a remeasurement, which we will aim to complete as soon as possible. Until then, results will not be uploaded to RunBritain.

We sincerely apologise and completely understand your frustration about this issue. As event organisers, we rely on the reports provided by the AUKCM and have followed the proper certification procedures. We are committed to resolving this matter promptly and will keep you updated.
