The One on the River - Henley

Pre-race email -  Sunday 22nd September 2023

Thank you for signing up for this year's event! To access all the necessary race day information, please follow the links provided in this email.

Update (2)

Swim: We conducted a final water test on the river today and are pleased to report that the results are favourable for swimming. Based on the attached chart from Beyond Swim, the reading was very close to 'excellent'. We have sent this information to BTF, who are happy to permit the event, and they will be present on the day to take water temperature readings. The current river temperature is 14.8°C, meaning we are nearing the threshold for mandatory wetsuit use – we advise everyone to bring a wetsuit and strongly recommend wearing them.

Bike: We have made some adjustments to the bike route to use quieter roads, which we believe will offer a safer and more enjoyable cycling experience. These changes have resulted in a slightly longer distance for the Standard event and a slightly shorter distance for the Middle event. This modification prioritises safety, as the planned route along Henley Road can become very busy, and with a larger field of participants, it could have become too congested.

The new route passes the Stonor Estate, which has a car boot sale on the same day. We have spoken with the venue, and they expect some traffic queues towards Stonor from Henley. However, you will be cycling anticlockwise (towards Henley), so the cycling route should not be affected. (Note: we will have additional marshals in this area.)

Weather: We are aware of reports of heavy rain on both Saturday night and Sunday morning. Given the weather warnings, including potential flooding and lightning, we are closely monitoring the situation. Your safety is our top priority, and we will provide updates on whether the event can go ahead.

All the pre race information is attached below.

Update (1)

We have received several questions about the swim, and our initial water tests indicate that the water is safe, allowing us to proceed as planned. We have also consulted with other events held on this section of the river earlier this year, and there are no concerns. However, the river conditions can be unpredictable, and we will continue to monitor it closely right up until race day.

Don't forget:
This is a split transition event, with the first transition located on the opposite side of the road from the car park; Running shoes must be racked in T2 before heading to T1 for the swim and bike start.

If you have any further questions, please refer to the contact details provided at the end of this document.

Good luck on the day!
