Hello All,

Welcome to the January 2024 edition of Marv's Music Mail Newsletter. Happy New Year everyone!

Recapping 2023, I believe I performed 143 shows.  So many fun shows that it's hard to single out just a few.  Playing the Iron Exchange Brewery with Kaat was always a highlight and we will be playing there every month in 2024!  Performing at the MN State Fair in August with Kaat for the first time over two days was very special as we got to showcase much more of our repertoire than usual, and make many new friends.  For the Songs of the South-Alabama Tribute Show, I would have to say the highlights would be the two festival shows we did in Brainerd in June and July: Lakes Jam and Iconic Fest.  Going to England for the first time in November and performing a couple of shows including a solo set was really great.  Topping off the year as usual was another iconic show, the 44th Annual Curtiss A John Lennon Tribute at First Avenue.  Once again, it was another marathon show over four hours with a fantastic audience.  Pictured above is me singing "Don't Let Me Down" with Ryan Smith of Soul Asylum and the Melismatics.

Kicking off 2024 with a bang, Kaat and I will be heading to Hutchinson's Main Street Sports Bar tomorrow January 4th, to Rochester at Forager Friday January 5th and Saturday January 6th is the big stage with the baby grand at the Iron Exchange in Maple Plain.  The next weekend, Songs of the South plays the Chanhassen Fireside Theatre for two nights.  Last year those shows sold out, so get your tickets now.  We will be doing a video recording of the show on Saturday night.

Probably the most unique show this month will be at The Hallberg Center for the Arts in Wyoming, MN on Thursday night, January 25th.  The show features two songwriting duos in the round.  If you're not familiar, a songwriter round is a group of 3, 4 or more songwriters taking turns performing their songs for each other and the audience.  In this case it's two duos, all writers.  Kaat and I will be joined by Karlos and Julie Weisenhorn.  I've known Karlos and Julie for a long time as Julie is the sister of my old friend and bandmate, the great Andy Dee.  Andy and I played together in a band called Kevin Bowe and the Okemah Prophets and released four albums together.  I'm looking forward to hearing Karlos and Julie's songs and catching up.

The list below is everything that is planned so far for January.  Please check the website for any updates.

Thanks so much to all who came out to so many shows in the past year.  I really appreciate all the support you have given me and the groups I perform with.

Looking forward to seeing you more in the new year!

Peace & Love,

MG.
