EVANGELISTIC SUPPORT PROGRAM

This is the third day I've written about how God has called us to develop the Evangelistic Support Program. Thank you so much for following up on every email.

Well, in the e-mail sent yesterday I spoke of our arrival in the border region of Bolivia with Brazil and today I want to talk about the period of time we stayed in the border region. I hope each email can edify your life.

We rented a house in the city of Puerto Suares on the Bolivian side and we stayed in that region for 8 months until my daughter Deborah was born. It was a time of adaptation in the new country that the Lord had placed us. Bolivia is a country culturally very different from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and others. The country of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador are similar and at the same time different from other South American countries

Many times I passed by the Bolivian flag and I told the Lord how much I loved Paraguay and my desire to do missions in Paraguay, but I was in Bolivia because of the order of the Lord Jesus. One day I passed through the border region and looked at the Bolivian flag and I told the Lord that I didn't love those people. I told God I felt like marrying someone I didn't love, someone I didn't know and I was feeling broken inside. Then the Spirit of God said to me, "I will teach you to love this people."

I would visit the border pastors and other missionaries and everyone would ask me how I was supporting myself. I said I didn't have a missions partner, I didn't have a church or mission agency partner, but I came because the Lord Jesus had sent me. They were amazed and told me that I would starve and would certainly dishonor the name of Christ in that place. Some laughed at us for not having a car and now my pregnant wife needing a taxi to go to clinic appointments. That situation wanted to bring me down, but whenever I prayed to the Lord, the Spirit of God reminded me of every word that he himself had given me and those words strengthened me.

Well, my money was running out and it wasn't even enough for the delivery of my daughter's birth, much less to support us in the mission field in Bolivia. Then one day my father appeared in the border region and said that we should go back to Paraguay so that my wife could have a baby. He was very worried and said that my mother-in-law was also super worried about our situation. In this way we agreed to return to Paraguay for the birth of my daughter.

When the day of the baby's birth arrived, I had only R$1300 Brazilian Reais. The money was just enough for the delivery, some medication and the two days that my wife would have to stay in the hospital. On January 24, 2007 my daughter Deborah was born and it was a great joy for all of us. I went to the hospital office and paid the hospital expenses and handed over the R$1300 Brazilian Reais that we had and we were left with nothing.

Well, we had to leave the hospital in the afternoon and before leaving, brothers from the church began to visit us. each one brought an offering and I thanked them and put them in my pocket. I didn't look at the values, I just thanked the offer and put the money in my pocket. When we got home my wife asked if we had any money, so I said that what we had in the bank, the R$1300 Brazilian Reais I had paid for the hospital expenses. Then she asked me how we were going to get back to Bolivia and I said I didn't know but we should pray.

I could not write here about this situation we went through when my daughter was born, the offers we received from the brothers in the hospital and the detail of the Lord Jesus putting in our hands the exact amount that I had paid for the hospital. Yes, I paid R$1300 Brazilian Reais for the hospital expenses and before leaving the hospital the Lord Jesus uses his servants to "return" me precisely the R$1300 Brazilian Reais. I wanted to tell you here because if you are a parent, you know that I was very scared of going back to Bolivia with a newborn baby. But with that situation the Holy Spirit filled my heart to believe that HE would be with us in Bolivia.

So we stayed in Paraguay for about three and a half months and then decided to return to Bolivia. We received financial help from several brothers in the church and some people who owed me furniture that I sold came to pay us. With that money we went back to Bolivia, but now it was me, my wife Mina and my daughter Deborah. God poured into our heart the certainty that we would lack nothing and that all needs would be met by HIM in that work of missions. The Spirit of God poured into us the confidence that our supply was in the Lord.

So, we left the border and went to the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. God had told us that our house would be near the second ring in Santa Cruz and I asked some pastors about the rent for a house in that area and they all told me that it was an expensive area to rent. A Brazilian missionary asked me how much I had to rent and when I told him he said that I couldn't rent even a small room in that region. I was scared by everything I heard, but I remembered that the Lord had told me that the house would be close to the second ring.

I bought a newspaper and marked all the rentals next to the second ring. But before leaving I told Mina that we should pray and that we should ask God for the house we need. Mina and I took time out to pray and asked for a house that had a bedroom upstairs on the first floor and a large space downstairs on the first floor for worship services. So, I went in search of the house and the Lord Jesus gave it to us as HE said it would be and the way we asked: The house had a room upstairs and downstairs on the first floor a large space for worship meetings.

I'll stop here. If God allows me tomorrow I will continue with this testimony

God bless you
