US Taps $420M to Boost Water Supplies Hit by Climate Change

  • The US Interior Department confirmed that $420 million would be spent supporting water infrastructure projects across Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The total infrastructure investment in Western-U.S projects will be $5 billion.
  • Rural water projects are expected to receive 20% of the $5 billion federal support and funding following increased concerns about drought worsened by climate change, especially in the Western US, a region suffering a 20-year mega-drought.
  • Critical infrastructure that supports improved service delivery and inclusivity for Native American tribes will also receive federal capital. Tens of thousands of the Navajo nation have yet to obtain access to running water, an example of Native American infrastructure is considerably underfunded.

This acquisition follows two of Egis’ purchases earlier this year: UK-based architects Weston Williamson + Partners and a top 10 Chinese design practice. WME’s strong regional presence in the Middle East and India supports Egis’ global expansion efforts to become a global leading engineering firm. “WME is an ideal fit for Egis.
