What is the FSB accusing Pavel Andreev of? In its press release, the FSB claims that since 2019, Andreev “provided assistance to representatives of foreign intelligence services for monetary compensation in activities aimed against the security of the Russian Federation,” “maintained covert contacts over a long period of time with representatives of NATO countries and organizations used by foreign intelligence services as cover for conducting intelligence and subversive activities in Russia,” and “carried out projects on behalf of foreign actors aimed at violating the territorial integrity and constitutional order of the Russian Federation.” FSB officers detained Daria Chernysheva, executive director of the “Revolt Center,” in a separate case regarding failure to comply with the obligations of a “foreign agent.” This charge is not related to the prosecution of Pavel Andreev. The court imposed restrictions on her: she is prohibited from visiting the “Revolt Center” communicating with witnesses in the case, and contacting employees of both the “Revolt Center” and the “7x7” outlet, where she worked until 2022. Searches were carried out in various regions of Russia at the homes of activists and journalists who had, at different times, collaborated with the “Revolt Center” and participated in its events.
On July 10 in Syktyvkar, a protest was held outside the “Revolt Center” by “veterans of the special military operation and civic activists.” The protesters stated they condemned the “Revolt Center,” which they claimed was acting against the authorities and citizens of Russia “in favor of the collective West, with which we are currently at war.” Unknown individuals slashed posters on the “Revolt Center” building, smashed its front door, and painted the symbols “Z” and “Traitors Z” on the windows. The perpetrators remain unidentified. The center is currently closed. The editorial team of 7x7 issued a statement regarding the criminal case against Pavel Andreev: We express our support for all the victims of this criminal case. We regard it as an attempt to intimidate people for whom love for their homeland and civic responsibility for what is happening around them are not meaningless clichés but the essence and meaning of life. To speak about social problems and try to find their solution, to help people subjected to unjust persecution and torture — this is true patriotism. The “Revolt Center” itself is a unique and very important phenomenon in the cultural and public life of the Komi Republic and Russia as a whole. It is a place for the free exchange of opinions and honest conversation about the past and the present. It is a platform where traditional art meets the contemporary. We also believe that without such a conversation, social progress is impossible. The repression of employees and leaders of the “Revolt Center” is an attempt to shut down this dialogue, and we consider it politically motivated and contrary to common sense. The paths of Pavel Andreev and “7x7” diverged in 2022, but our values remain shared. We believe that no one can silence the voice of reason, the voice of love for the Russian regions. |
