Step into Nature's Wonderland: Volunteer with Us Today!Dear Volunteers from the Saskatoon Open Door Society, We hope you are filled with the same enthusiasm for our beautiful natural spaces as we are. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing interest and support in preserving and promoting the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, George Genereux Urban Regional Park, and Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area. These hidden gems in the southwest of Saskatoon hold immense ecological value and provide sanctuary for diverse flora and fauna. Together, We Can Be the Change Nature Needs! We have some exciting sprint time opportunities and events coming up that we'd like to share with you: Frozen Trails and Wagging Tails: Dog Sledding Delight (Saturday, March 30, afternoon) - Join us in manning the sign-up tables and take part in a dog sled ride if there's still 3-5 inches of snow on the ground. City Nature Challenge 2024 (April 26-29) - Download the free iNaturalist app and help capture images and sound recordings of plants, animals, insects, and mushrooms anywhere in Saskatoon and the surrounding area. Scheduled CNC YXE Saskatoon Events (April 26-29) - Help co-host these events for members of the public and discover our forests through guided walks and explorations. The public events are Friday and Monday at 7:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm. If you are free during the day help co-host student classroom field trips Friday or Monday Times would be morning 9:15 am to noon and or 1:00 pm to 3:30pm. Jane's Walk Festival (May 3-5) - Celebrate the legacy of Jane Jacobs with adventurous walks exploring the Afforestation Areas with a co-hosting opportunity. Date and Time Announcement coming soon! Arbor Week Celebration (End of May) - Join us in celebrating our love for trees and nature with exciting events waiting for your enthusiasim and participation Date and Time just around the corner. June ParticipACTION Month - Help us with event planning to promote an active lifestyle and celebrate Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27) and World Refugee Day (June 20) which you may have unique talents to help with in the conversation! We look forward to hearing from you. . For all the above events, we are happy to provide certificates or letters of participation if needed. High school students in Grades 10 through Grade 12 who volunteer 100 hours of their personal time can receive the new "volunteerism" high school credit.
