Exciting News for Saskatoon's Green Network!

On September 28, 2023, the federal government officially announced $20 million in funding for Saskatoon’s Green Network through Infrastructure Canada’s Natural Infrastructure Fund (NIF).

The NIF provides a significant opportunity for the City to advance the Green Infrastructure Strategy Implementation Plan (Green Pathways), a 10-year plan to increase the quantity and quality of natural infrastructure in Saskatoon, enhance the urban environment and improve quality of life.

Saskatoon’s successful NIF application, called the Green Network Project, bundles together over 20 initiatives to be implemented over two years for a total value of over $34 million. A portion of this funding will go towards the pilot master plan already underway for the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area (RSBBAA).  If the pilot master plans for RSBBAA and the Small Swale are successful, the City of Saskatoon will undertake further initiatives, potentially also for George Genereux Urban Regional Park!

The Green Network Project will revitalize a range of natural infrastructure throughout the city including parks, the urban forest and natural areas. More specifically, the project seeks to protect, manage and restore natural assets and ecosystems in the Green Network, while also supporting community activities, such as recreation, education, culture uses and food production.
