Jazz Party Kickoff with Delfeayo Marsalis

Grammy award-winning trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis of the legendary Marsalis family is opening the FIU Music Festival for a New Orleans-Style Jazz party not to be missed! He will join our very own FIU Faculty Jazz Quartet and FIU Jazz Big Band for a party like no other, featuring music from his latest album, Jazz Party. Jazz Party embodies the ebullient and cheerful characteristics of the New Orleans community.

Francesca Khalifa: Film + Piano Recital: Dedication to German Diez

The evening features Italian-Egyptian pianist Francesca Khalifa, winner of the Ferrara International Piano Festival in 2014, for an evening dedicated to German Diez Nieto and others. A short film presentation " Piano Lessons: The Life and Art of German Diez" will be shown before a piano recital featuring the music of German's brother, Cuban composer Alfredo Diez Neito (Havana, 1918-2000).

Into the Light: An Evening of South Indian Classical Music

Sikkil C. Gurucharan is among India's foremost young performing musicians of Carnatic music. Together with V. Sanjeev (violin) and Delhi Sairam (Mridangham), they will present known literature from different parts of India to celebrate the Festival of Lights - Deepavali.

Sikkil C. Gurucharan is a Visiting Professor at the Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts during the 22/23 season. We are committed to bringing diverse cultural music experiences to existing curricula while providing cultural exchange opportunities for students.

He will be providing guest lectures, popping into music courses and rehearsing in our studios. This well-rounded diverse cultural experience culminates in this recital.

The annual Liszt Festival, sponsored by the South Florida Chapter of the American Liszt Society at FIU, is dedicated to advancing knowledge about the great Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt.

The evening features Jeffrey LaDeur, known for his rare blend of insight, spontaneity, and approachable, communicative stage presence.
