Spotlight on the Sydell Ida Wertheim Organ

Step into The Wertheim and experience the majestic voice of the 1999 Schantz pipe organ in a stunning new feature by the Organ Media Foundation.

Hosted by Brent Johnson, the video includes a thoughtful conversation with Wertheim music alum Luis Cuza (’10), now Director of Music Ministries at Church of the Little Flower. Together, they explore the design, voice, and versatility of this remarkable 74-rank instrument — the largest pipe organ in Miami-Dade County and the only concert instrument organ housed at a university south of Central Florida.

The organ was gifted through the generosity of Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim, whose support also made the Wertheim Performing Arts Center possible. In gratitude, the university dedicated the concert organ to the memory of Dr. Herbert Wertheim’s mother, Sydell Ida Wertheim.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to organ faculty member Joanne Schulte for her tireless efforts in sharing this instrument’s beauty with students and the community through performance, education, and outreach.
