Welcome to the 24/25 Season!

We are thrilled to welcome you to our 24/25 Season, enriched by landmark achievements, fresh talent, and spectacular performances! This summer, FIU was designated a Preeminent Research University by the Florida State University System (SUS) Board of Governors. As the youngest university in Florida to receive this honor, our community stands out for the excellence of our students, the dedication of our faculty, and the impressive achievements of our alumni.

Introducing Our New Faculty

  • Aldo Salvent, a distinguished FIU alumnus, joins us as the new Visiting Assistant Professor of Jazz Saxophone. Taking over from Gary Campbell, he brings his rich experience and passion back to FIU, ready to lead the FIU Jazz Big Band with new energy.
  • Vincent Connor, our new Musical Theatre Coordinator, comes with over thirty years of experience across musical theater, opera, and television. His extensive career, including leadership roles as Artistic Director of the Vienna Summer Music Festival and as a producer of the London Summer Music Theatre Academy, promises to foster excellence within our program.
  • Darryl L. Baker, joining as the Director of Athletic Bands and a proud Miami native, he brings his dynamic leadership and dedication to excellence from Florida A&M University. His deep ties to the community and extensive experience will significantly enhance the FIU Wertheim Marching Band.
  • Avi Nagin, has been appointed Assistant Teaching Professor of Violin and Chamber Music and Coordinator of the Strings Area. He is a member of the critically acclaimed Amernet String Quartet, which serves as the Artist-In-Residence Ensemble at FIU. Previously a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor, he will continue to bring a wealth of knowledge and artistry to our program.
  • Omar Lateef, a versatile musician and educator in both classical and jazz, steps into the roles of Teaching Assistant Professor of Trumpet, University Brass Choir Director, and Area Coordinator for Winds, Brass, and Percussion Area.

Season Opening Concert on October 5th

Our new season wouldn't be complete without you! Be part of an extraordinary evening as we unveil the magic of our opening concert!

This is more than just a concert; it's a celebration of musical mastery and a fresh start to a promising season. Experience the power of Beethoven’s "Eroica" and the captivating drama of Mozart’s Concerto No. 20, with two outstanding guests from Spain: conductor Vicente Luna and pianist Joan Miquel Fiol Villegas.

Supported by the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain and Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson, this unforgettable night promises to be an unparalleled experience celebrating the brilliance of Spain’s finest talent right here in Miami!
