The Launch of The Orlando Jacinto Garcia
Composition Scholarship Endowment

We are thrilled to announce the launch of The Orlando Jacinto Garcia Composition Scholarship Endowment, recently unveiled during a retrospective concert honoring our esteemed Composer in Residence and Distinguished University Professor, Orlando Jacinto Garcia. This special event featured the remarkable talents of pianist Lindsay Garritson and FIU's Artist in Residence Ensemble, the Amernet String Quartet.

As we commemorated the 70th birthday of Orlando Jacinto Garcia, his generous pledge of $25,000 to support FIU music composition students with a preference for Cuban culture represents a momentous step forward in our commitment to nurturing excellence and cultural exploration. We cordially invite you to contribute today and stand with us in shaping the future of music composition at FIU, inspired by Garcia's enduring legacy and the profound impact of music.

FIU Wind Ensemble presents heartfelt tributes and two world premieres

Our recent Wind Ensemble concert was an extraordinary event, highlighted by two world premieres that captivated the audience with their depth. Among these premieres was James Syler's remarkable composition, "Stories from the Golden Hour," which used spoken word, performed by vocalist Dr. Vindhya Khare, to pay homage to the parents of Conductor Dr. Brenton Alston.

Please consider contributing to the scholarship fund established in honor of Professor Alston's parents, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future generations. Thank you for being a part of this remarkable experience.
