Following the release of Finsternis' debut EP "The Old Tongue," the band immediately focused their efforts on the follow-up release. The fruit of that labor is "Finsternis Über Alles," which betters its predecessor in focus, scale, and song-writing. The chorus sections shine brighter than ever before with enormous hooks, mournful melodies and spiteful venom. The black metal side of the band takes center stage on this album more so than on "The Old Tongue," with the opening track "An Unspeakable Darkness" letting the listener know what they are in for right from the start with icy riffs and blast beats. This intensity that is retained throughout the entirety of the album only relents when the band wants to show the more melodic and brooding part of their sound. Despite the black metal elements being more prominent, the death metal side of the equation is shown with plenty of love with tracks like "Lampri Tragodia" and "Epitaph For Humanity" showcasing the band hasn't lost their affinity for the heavier and more brutal side of things while the grandiose nature of the choruses and melody lines were heavily inspired by high-fantasy works and historical epics like "The Iliad." "Finsternis Über Alles" was released independently on January 25th, 2022.
