Sweden-based operatic rockers Lieder Distortion delved into the creative process behind their latest release, "Don Giovanni." Their newest track is a rock rhapsody with music taken from Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni, and it is a unique blend of opera rock, symphonic rock, and classical crossover that echoes the band's influences, including Therion, Queen, Nightwish, and of course, Mozart himself.

"Different parts of classical music have been taken and made into a rock album for 'Don Giovanni,' which sets it apart from our other songs," shared vocalist Lieder Distortion, hinting at the distinctive approach the band adopted for their third single. With it being the last song they finished before their album, the band sees it as a significant step in their artistic evolution. "If we do another album, probably more of the songs will be based on the same technique as 'Don Giovanni,'" he added, hinting at potential future musical explorations.

The inspiration behind "Don Giovanni," according to Lieder Distortion, comes from a deep love for the opera. "Don Giovanni is one of my favorite operas. I have seen it and sung parts of it many times, and especially the death scene is very powerful music. My idea was that we should do a rhapsody of the death scene in Don Giovanni,"  he shared, revealing the profound influence Mozart's opera, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Rhapsody in Rock with Robert Wells, and the film Amadeus had on the track.

But the band's connection with the opera goes beyond its musicality. They see a parallel between Don Giovanni's storyline and contemporary environmental issues. "Don Giovanni lives a lavish life where he exploits and abuses people around him. When the statue appears and warns him, he refuses to listen and to abandon his lifestyle even though he knows it leads directly into the fires of hell," he explained. The vocalist further elaborated on this parallel, drawing a comparison with humanity's current exploitation of animals and nature. Despite repeated warnings of our lifestyle's unsustainability, the band suggests we, like Don Giovanni, are heading straight into the fires of hell on earth.

With "Don Giovanni," Lieder Distortion hopes to inspire listeners to see these common patterns between the opera's storyline and our civilization. They aspire to stir their fans not into depression but rather into inspiration and action. "I hope they can see common patterns throughout Don Giovanni and throughout our civilization, but not be down or depressed, but angry and inspired to do something about it," they stated, encouraging listeners to be the change they wish to see.

"Don Giovanni" is a unique blend of old and new, classical and rock, culminating in a powerful musical commentary on contemporary issues. Through their music, Lieder Distortion is not just entertaining listeners but also provoking thought and encouraging change. As they continue their musical journey, fans can look forward to more songs that are as musically engaging as they are thought-provoking.
