Discussing their creative process, the band explains: "The composition process for Somberwind is relatively straightforward. On the one hand, it starts with a basic musical idea or concept, and on the other hand, it involves a complex cascade of sounds and melodies. Marco then joins the different parts in his brain, and after that, they create a basic, but complete, guitar version of the song. Meanwhile, Caterina handles the singing and lyrics, arranging the melodies by drawing from a mosaic of imagination, dreams, and real stuff going on."
The band cites influences from old English gothic rock bands, German gothic bands, dark metal and classic hard rock. Their latest single, "Grind to Dust", explores themes of faith and deception. Furthermore, Somberwind reveals a deeper concern about how "people are living in a kind of virtual-meta-world that is not the real world. It is just an illusion or a mirage."
"Grind to Dust" marks the beginning of a new sound for the band. They share, "The second album will include more vocal melodic arrangements and more detailed arrangements in the music. Also, the sound changed because we evolved to a more refined sound." This evolution is expected to resonate with fans while introducing a fresh take on their signature style.
