Inherently Lost have shared their creative process behind the new single "Unraveling Sanity" as well as what influenced its sound and direction. Vocalist Mark Moats explains, "we set out intentionally to write a shorter song that would transcend several subgenres of metal and still sound like Inherently Lost." He further adds, "while utilizing Noreen's lyrics, we started working on the vocal patterns and structure." The band wrote this song while auditioning drummers and bass players, but finally, they found Mikey and bassist Drew, who pulled the sound together with their playing style.

Lyrically, "Unraveling Sanity" is about the struggles with mental health, as explained by Moats, the band's vocalist: "As our name Inherently Lost, 'Unraveling Sanity' has multiple meanings. It is about the struggles with mental health that most of us have experienced in one form or another, especially at a young age", he adds. The artwork theme of the song is a combination of being lost in the never-ending universe mixed with being lost in a never-ending war. «This single is quite different from anything on the EP 'Our Last Midnight'. However, rest assured not only are we keeping the album heavy, dark and violent, we are pushing into darknesses that you have yet to experience.»

When asked how they hope their fans will connect with this release, Mark Moats responds, "I hope they relate to the lyrics, the different styles of writing in the song, and to me, the dual vocals are different voices in my head." He further adds, "hopefully 'Unraveling Sanity' tickles not only the brain, the heart, but the taint as well." Inherently Lost are known for their unique fusion of metal, industrialcore, progressive metal, symphonic and deathcore genres, setting them apart from their contemporaries.
