Scheitan's Comeback: A Fresh Take on Their Iconic Dark Vibe After a 24-year hiatus, legendary Swedish gothic rock/metal veterans Scheitan are back with a vengeance, and they have something special to share with their fans. Pierre Törnkvist, the band's vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and keyboardist, discusses his latest single, "Lost In Time", and the creative process behind it.
Pierre revealed "It was quite a long process, and I was not 100% sure what to do with it. But in the end, I found it suitable for a Scheitan-restart." He mentioned that despite his metal background, he was heavily influenced by bands like The Sisters of Mercy, Fields of The Nephilim, Tiamat and The 69 Eyes. He added: "This kind of music has always had a special place in my heart."
On creating a modern sound, Törnkvist said "I wanted it to feel fresh and not '90's', which I think was accomplished. There is a modern, heavy sound to it and not a stiff, digital sound which was featured on many '80s and '90s goth releases."
Themes and Inspirations for "Lost in Time"
When asked about the themes and inspirations behind "Lost in Time", Pierre shared a powerful message: "Lyrically, I speak directly to the brave people in the east of Europe that right now are trying to withstand the relentless aggression from Russia. Many of them have chosen to die for a higher cause so that their friends and families hopefully can live in freedom and peace one day. This song is for them."
Scheitan's Evolution and Connecting with Fans
Regarding the band's evolution and how the new release fits into their discography, Törnkvist explains: "I see this as a natural continuation of where we left off in 1999 with 'Nemesis' that was released on Century Media. Musically it's not too far away from that album."
He also mentioned a significant change in his approach to vocals: "I did not trust my natural voice back then and did not have the facilities either to try things out in the same way that I am able to do now, thanks to having a studio set up at my own home."
As for connecting with fans, Pierre said, "I look upon this as a fresh start. It's like starting over again. Scheitan has been away for so long that no one knows us now. It's a challenge to find an audience again, but it's a challenge I am very much looking forward to." He also expressed gratitude for finding The Circle Music as their label partner: "We are a small but dedicated force."
