Defending the Charterer's Interests in International Commercial Arbitration in a Dispute Over Demurrage and Interest Due to Prolonged Cargo Discharge at the Port of Destination

The client’s contract contained conflicting provisions regarding the terms and conditions for cargo discharge. The defense of the charterer’s interests was based on the application of statutory and judicial interpretation methods to resolve these inconsistencies.

Following a detailed analysis, it was established that the shipowner had included in the calculation time that should not have been counted, while the charterer had completed the unloading within the time frame stipulated in the contract.

The arbitral tribunal dismissed the claim, thereby releasing the charterer from the asserted liabilities and awarding compensation for legal expenses incurred β†’

GRATA International Advises Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic on Landmark $700 Million Sovereign Bond Offering

On May 28, 2025, the Kyrgyz Republic successfully completed its first-ever sovereign bond issuance, raising USD 700 million in five-year bonds with an annual coupon rate of 7.75%. The issuance was carried out under a newly established Global Medium Term Note (GMTN) program and generated strong investor interest - demand exceeded the offering by more than three times.
