GRATA International ranked by Legal 500 EMEA 2023 as a top law firm in Europe, Middle East, and Africa


On April 12, 2023, Legal 500, a global legal directory, released its rankings of leading law firms and lawyers in Europe, Middle East and Africa Legal 500 EMEA 2023.


The rankings reveal that GRATA International has maintained its success from the previous year, with strong rankings in AzerbaijanGeorgiaKazakhstanTajikistanTurkey and Uzbekistan.


The Legal 500 EMEA 2023 rankings have confirmed GRATA International’s role as one of the market leaders in the region.

GRATA International will be a Partner of the 13th Mining and Exploration Forum MINEX Kazakhstan 2023


On April 19-20, 2023, the leading international geological Forum dedicated to the development of the mineral resources and modernisation of the mining industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Central Asia will be held in Astana.


The Forum is aimed at discussing key trends, projects and success stories in the field of subsoil use, where leading and mining companies, ministries, non-profit organizations, law and consulting companies will take part.


Almat, Partner of GRATA International will be a moderator of the first session, which will be devoted to the topic: "Creating a favourable business climate for sustainable development and investment in the mining industry”.


Also Almat will be a speaker of the second session: "Priorities for the development of the geological industry in Kazakhstan", where will tell: "About some legal risks of geological exploration in Kazakhstan and ways to solve them".


Baizhan Bekzhanov, Zaira Sarsenova, Samat Daumov, Partners and Ainura Takeyeva, Counsel of GRATA International will be a Forum delegates.

GRATA International Kazakhstan will hold a webinar on customs law


On May 4, 2023, a webinar on the topic: "Adjustment of the customs value at the stage of release of goods" will be held.


Time: 10:00 - 11:00 (Almaty time).


The meeting will cover the following issues:

  • forms of customs control used in checking the customs value;
  • basis for carrying out customs value audit;
  • trends in court practice on customs value cases.

Representatives of GRATA International Kyrgyzstan are participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition


On 8-15 April representatives of GRATA International are participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held in Washington, D.C. This year the Competition welcomed 209 lawyers and professors from 59 countries serving as judges. GRATA International team acting as judges this year included Nurlan Kyshtobaev, Partner of GRATA International Kyrgyzstan &Tajikistan, and Elmira Usenova, Associate of GRATA International Kyrgyzstan. Elmira also serves as a co-administrator for Central Asian Regional Rounds.

   

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s oldest and largest moot court competition, bringing together participants from over 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions each year.


GRATA International eager to promote and contribute to the development of future legal professionals! Thus, earlier this year, GRATA International supported Central Asian Regional Rounds by providing best oralists with an opportunity of short-term internships in our Central Asian offices and financial awards to teams.


GRATA International shall continue promotion of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in the countries of its operation.

Partner of GRATA International Uzbekistan has joined an arbitration practice exchange trip


Partner of GRATA International Uzbekistan Nodir Yuldashev has joined an arbitration practice exchange trip and the road show of Tashkent International Arbitration Centre (TIAC) to Hong Kong organised by Commercial Law Development Program and TIAC earlier this March 2023.


During the trip a group of leading Uzbekistan and international arbitration and legal practitioners have held workshops and training sessions led by Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and Eversheds Sutherland LLP.


Several business development meetings have been organised with HKIAC, eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre, arbitrators and barristers of Des Voex Chambers, CIETAC Hong Kong office, as well as arbitrators, legal and business practitioners from ICC Hong Kong Office, Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, AmCham and others.

Senior Associate of GRATA International in Uzbekistan won the 10th International Commercial & Investment Arbitration Moot Competition


The International Commercial & Investment Arbitration Moot Competition is an annual international competition that brings together law students from around the world to participate in mock arbitration hearings. The competition focuses on international commercial and investment arbitration and is designed to simulate a real-life arbitration proceeding.


Tatyana Popovkina, Senior Associate of GRATA Uzbekistan, with members of the LL.M. Class of 2023 at the University of Georgia School of Law won the 10th International Commercial & Investment Arbitration Moot Competition.


Their coach is Georgia Law Dean, Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge, a legal scholar and professor who currently serves as Dean of the University of Georgia School of Law. He has also served as a Visiting Professor at several universities, including Harvard Law School and the University of Paris.


The competition took place on March 24 and 25 at American University Washington College of Law – involves a commercial dispute to be resolved under the rules of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association.
