GRATA International Belarus is a Partner of the Belarusian Student Law Olympiad 2023

Belarusian Student Law Olympiad is taking place on March 15-17, 2023.

For over 19 years Law Olympiad brings together law students from across Belarus competing in their knowledge and professional skills.

One of the main event goals is to create a unique opportunity to demonstrate law students’ skills, broaden horizons, meet new people, and find new contacts.

Competition rounds are held for three days. Senior Associates and partners of GRATA International, Belarus are joining the judging panel for team and individual competitions.

On March 15, 2023, Dmitry Viltovsky, Managing Partner of GRATA International, Belarus, gave the opening speech at the opening of the Olympiad, wishing good luck to all participants.

GRATA International Kyrgyzstan became a Partner of the Central Asian Rounds of the Competition 2023

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s oldest and largest moot court competition, bringing together participants from over 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions each year. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the Judicial organ of the United Nations. Teams prepare oral and written pleading arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. The Competition case concerns timely issues of the interpretation of a peace treaty, attacks in allegedly occupied territory, unilateral economic sanctions, and the legal consequences of failing to dispose of the hazardous waste property.

The Competition is administered by the International Law Students Association, a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law.


To promote the importance of legal education and the rule of international law in the region, the Central Asian Rounds of the Competition is organized between teams representing Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

This year the National and Friendly Rounds of the Competition are taking place at Tashkent State University of Law in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on February 16-17th 2023. Teams from each jurisdiction will compete among themselves for the right to represent their countries in International Rounds and then will have a few friendly rounds with teams from other participating countries.

GRATA International actively contributes to the importance of legal education and acts as a Partner of the Central Asian Rounds of the Competition 2023.

GRATA International generously will provide awards for Best Memorandum winners from three participating jurisdictions and provide an opportunity to undertake an internship at the GRATA International office.


GRATA International Mongolia Partner awarded Leading Lawyer medal in legal sector

Bolormaa Volodya, Partner and Director of GRATA International Mongolia office has been received a medal of a Leading lawyer of Legal sector which is a government award and granted on basis of order NoA/50 dated 2023 of Minister of Justice and Home affair. The award is given to the lawyer who has been working in legal sector and contributed to the development of the sector notably for at least 12 years or longer and achieved professional higher skills.

GRATA International Belarus participated in a business forum between Nizhny Novgorod Region (Russia) and Belarus

On March 14, 2023 business forum was carried out between Nizhny Novgorod Region (Russia) and Belarus.

Managing Partner Dmitry Viltovsky and Associate Polina Sachava gave presentation on the topic “Foreign transactions between Russia and Belarus: currency regulation, taxation, and other practical aspects”. The following points had been covered:

  • the specifics to be considered while concluding a foreign exchange contract between Belarusian and Russian residents,
  • the specifics of VAT payment and the 0% tax rate application.

GRATA International participated in the PDAC 2023 Convention

On March 5-8 2023, the PDAC 2023 World Convention was held in Toronto, Canada. 


The annual PDAC 2023 Convention - the world’s premier mineral exploration & mining convention.

The convention was attended by a Kazakh delegation, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Canada, the Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, General Director of Kazakhmys,  as well as the heads and specialists of large Kazakh enterprises. 

GRATA International was represented by Ms.Zulfiya Akchurina, Representative in the United States, New York and Mrs. Saule Akhmetova, Partner at the Almaty office, Kazakhstan.


Kazakhstan National Pavilion was situated at the main showroom of PDAC.

GRATA International Kazakhstan Partners took part in the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Forum 2023

From February 28 to March 1, 2023, the 14th Eurasian Pharmaceutical Forum 2023 was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in which the Partners of GRATA International Kazakhstan, Aliya Zhumekenova and Shakhrukh Usmanov participated.

As part of the practical focus session "Development of production and localization opportunities: difficulties and preferences," Aliya Zhumekenova spoke on the topic "Localization in Kazakhstan: key legal issues and concerns".

The forum provided participants with an opportunity to meet with leading players in the pharmaceutical market and discuss current issues facing the industry today.

GRATA International held an international online conference on Corporate Law 

On February 28, 2023, the GRATA International offices in Belarus, Georgia, Mongolia, Russia, and Uzbekistan discussed the topic of "Corporate Governance and M&A".

The conference sessions were moderated by Vyacheslav Khorovskiy, Managing Partner of the Moscow Office, and Sofia Roinishvili, Partner of the Georgia office.

The conference covered the following topics:

Belarus: "Pros and cons of concluding corporate agreements in business entities".

Georgia: "The new law on entrepreneurs - a brief overview".

Mongolia: "Mergers and Acquisitions laws and regulations".

Russia:

Uzbekistan: "Features of the procedure for transferring the share of LLC participants".

Natalia Zhuk, Counsel and Violetta Liudchyk, Junior Associate of GRATA International Belarus, took part at the webinar “Foreign exchange contract and non-monetary termination of obligations under the FEA contract”

The “Foreign Economic Activity” practice experts of GRATA International, Belarus gave recommendations on contractual work during the webinar held on February 28, 2023. The speakers highlighted the foreign exchange contracts registration aspects on the Belarusian National Bank portal.

Natalia Zhuk, Counsel and Head of “Contract Law” practice covered the following:

  • general provisions and procedure of currency transactions;
  • recommendations for the wording of the concluded foreign exchange contracts terms (terms of fulfillment of the non-resident's obligations under the contract, amount of monetary obligations, terms of the settlement);
  • recommendations on legal support for the execution of foreign exchange contracts.

Violetta Liudchyk clarified when contracts need to be registered on the National Bank portal, in the speaking frame.

She explained the main changes from October 1, 2023, in the procedure of foreign exchange contracts registration, shared the action algorithm, and broke down common mistakes in the registration of contracts on the portal.

GRATA International Belarus “Corporate law” practice members took part in the webinar “Shareholder's withdrawal and share sale”

Managing Partner Dmitry Viltovsky and Junior Associate Violetta Liudchyk were the speakers of the webinar “Shareholder’s withdraw and share sale”.

As part of the "Share sale by one of the shareholders in a LLC (ALC)" section, colleagues considered more than 10 practical situations, analysed case law and advised the participants.

Dmitry and Violetta covered the following questions at the presentation.

What prohibitions and restrictions could be imposed on the share sale?

  • Adoption of a resolution by a shareholder-legal entity on selling a share.
  • The right of preferential purchase of share: complications, case law.
  • Notification of participants on share (part of share) sale: the general procedure.
  • Determination of share price: important points and tax risks.
