On October 5-6, 2022, an international conference on PPP was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in a hybrid format (offline / online).
The conference hosted thematic sessions on priority areas of PPP development: energy, healthcare, education, and transport. International organizations provided presentations on the implementation of existing, planned PPP projects in Kyrgyzstan. Within the framework of the conference, bilateral meetings were held and a number of agreements were reached.
Shaimerden Chikanayev, PhD student at CUHK University Law, Partner of GRATA International, Kazakhstan (Currently taking a study sabbatical until 2026. On September 29, 2022, a conference: Fintech in the countries of Eurasia: recent legal developments and main isuess, with the participation of GRATA offices in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.

Counsel of GRATA International, Timur Berekmoinov, made a report on the topic "The practice of combating counterfeit products and parallel imports in the Republic of Kazakhstan" at the X International Forum "Anti-Counterfeit-2022", which took place from 26 to 28 September 2022 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
During the speech, the forum participants discussed topical issues related to the suppression of the circulation of counterfeit goods, practical barriers to protecting trademarks in the customs register of IP objects (CRIPO), as well as obstacles related to bringing violators to justice for the illegal use of trademarks. The forum was attended by right holders, government agencies, as well as lawyers in the field of intellectual property.

GRATA International Senior Associates, Danil Gavrin and Bolat Asylkhanov, took part in the X Forum of Kazakhstan Machinery Manufacturers "Machinery in Kazakhstan: Challenges of the New Times", which was held in Astana on September 22 and lasted until September 23, 2022.
Within the framework of the Forum, various issues were raised on the development of mechanical engineering in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main topic of discussion was issues related to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Industrial Policy", the reduction of bureaucracy in the engineering industry, the transition to Industry 4.0. On 21 September 2022, Yerbolat Yerkebulanov (partner, head of Subsoil Use (Almaty)) lectured on FDI attraction issues at the “Promoting regional economic connectivity” online seminar, organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
The participants comprised representatives from the Mejlis (Lower Chamber) of the Milli Gengesh (National Council) of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, state and commercial banks and other relevant stakeholders.
During the webinar the participants were informed about 30-year Kazakhstan’s experience in modernization of its legal system aimed at FDI attraction, advantages gained and certain omissions made and rectified.
Among others, two most successful cases were discussed which related to the reform in subsoil use of solid minerals (adoption of the new Code on Subsoil and Subsoil Use with implementation of the Western Australia approach being among the world's top mining destinations) and development of the renewable energy sources (“RES”) sector. (During 2013-2021 the capacity of the RES sector in Kazakhstan rose 11-fold, from 177.52 MW (26 RES facilities) to 2010 MW (134 facilities) with the accumulated volume of investments being $1.8 billion, including $1 billion received from international development institutions.)
In addition, the issues of proposed amendments to the oil and gas legislation were considered (a modernized model contract) and measures for further attraction of FDI envisaged by the Concept of Investment Policy of Kazakhstan until 2026. | | | GRATA International took part in the Amcham Sundowner Aktau event
