Update 6: Appeal of Petition Closure

Dear Signatories,

We would like to inform you that the Petition for Children was closed without consideration by the European Parliament. You can find the summary of the petition and its status on the EP website

Dr Martin Zizi, who lodged the petition on behalf of the signatories, wrote back to the EP to request clarification on their decision and contest the closure. He urged the EP to hold a public hearing for the signatories of the petition to present their views.

In the event of an unfavourable reply from the EP, we are entitled to place a complaint with the European Ombudsman against the European Parliament for failure to avail itself of its obligations resulting from Articles 20 and 227 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and Article 44 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union which guarantee the right to petition before the European Parliament.

The EP is currently in the middle of its 12-month-mandate to investigate the management of the corona crisis at EU level via the COVI Committee. We urge you to spread the word about this petition and its closure without consideration, in order to expose the failure and duplicity of the EP and thus hopefully increase pressure on them to reconsider their action.

Please send us any interview clips or articles you write raising this issue.

Dr. Zizi’s letter is attached.

We will keep you posted about any further developments.

Kind regards,

Abir Ballan
