Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic-Heritage-Month-scaled

September 15th - October 15th is designated as National Hispanic Heritage month, celebrating the lives and cultures of people of Mexican, Central and South American, Caribbean and Spanish ancestry. The date September 15th is significant because it is the independence day of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. During this month, the art, music, and history of Hispanic-Americans is acknowledged and appreciated. However, this celebration has also come under criticism for the use of the term "Hispanic" to describe an extremely diverse group of people.
