Celebrating and Advocating for LGBTQ+

kcdsArtboard-7@4x-1486x743

LGBTQ+ Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, where the Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Libration Movement in the United States. Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, key figures in the Stonewall Uprising, were transgender activists seen as pioneers for LGBTQ+ rights. Since then, the purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
