May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month – a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants. AAPI Heritage week was first celebrated in 1979 and designated as AAPI Heritage month in 1992.

Love our people like you love our food.

We felt the need as Asian Americans in the restaurant industry to use our platforms to come together and raise our voices on the issue of anti-Asian racism, while raising money for an organization that is actively working on this issue (CAAL). Our food enriches your life, but we are more than a bowl of ramen, an order of dumplings, some spicy curry. We are individuals, completely different, not interchangeable, not invisible.

Come into the kitchen with Minneapolis chefs and bartenders to learn how to make some of their favorite dishes and drinks that speak to who they are as Asian Americans. Get to know them, learn their stories, let them share a piece of themselves with you. Throughout May, they will release videos every few days so you can celebrate AAPI month and cook along with them.
