It has been over a year since we sent our last newsletter. During the pandemic, we changed locations from the Mission district to the downtown area of San Francisco. Our new location is a larger space right by Union Square. If you have been following the news you may be aware that the downtown area has not recovered fully since the pandemic. Northface recently announced its closure following suit after Nordstrom, Adidas, Macy's and around 75% of the retailers at the former Westfield mall (now Emporium Centre) decided to shutter down. It’s unfortunate, but the reality is that if these large corporations are suffering then the effects are even more drastic on small businesses such as ours. Last Minute Gear has not been immune to cases of retail theft, drops in tourism, and inflation. Although we continue to be the only shop that offers unique services such as free gear to borrow, gear repair, and climbing & ultralight backpacking gear rentals, this hasn't been enough. The next few months will be critical as we figure out how to sustain the business to serve our customers.
