President's Corner

It takes effort to run the club and behind the scenes we have a group of dedicated board members and advisory board members making it all happen. I’d like to thank Scott Andrunas for all the years he’s been on the board, acting as the club’s Vice President. We are truly grateful for all you have done for Swami’s over your many years. Thanks!

It’s also time to congratulate Michael Reich on his new position as Vice President of Swami’s. Not often you will do a Swami’s ride and not see him in attendance, so when you see him, congratulate him and thank him for all he’s doing!

Finally, we are working with Cadence on the upcoming Club Night on the 16th. Always a fun event and a great way to catch up with the members. Hope you all can make it!

10/5 Social Ride

On Sunday, October 5, we're hosting our monthly Swami's Social Ride. It’s a conversationally-paced ride where you can meet long-time as well as new Swami’s members. You can check out all of the details here. We start and finish the Social Rides at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Bressi Ranch (map). Wear a Swami's kit from any year to get a coffee and baked good, on Swami’s! Have a classic bike you like to show off? Then this is the ride for that.

Note the new route: Since June, we've been experimenting with a new route that avoids the curb stops that were installed on Melrose Ave. Although some of those have been removed, you've let us know that you like the new route more than the old one, so we've made it the official Social Ride route. Make sure to download it!

The discounts will be available until the end of business on Thursday, October 23,

Swamdo Training Rides

This month we continue our series of Swamdo Training Rides (STR) to prepare for the Swamdo century on November 15. They progress in length and elevation, but don’t worry if you miss one. The best makeup is to do the next one! They all roll from Lost Abbey Brewery in Vista (map) at 8:00 am. Bathrooms will be available starting at 7:30 and there will be a BBQ food truck when the rides return!

PaTTrick!

The Fiesta Island Time Trial series has been a staple of the San Diego cycling scene since the 1960’s. Every year, a series of time trial races is offered in a variety of distances and categories and brings out intense competition due to the perfect flat conditions that Fiesta Island provides.

On September 28, Swami Patrick Hailey (you’ve read his name here before, associated with such feats as The 24-Hour World Time Trial Championships, the California Cross State Record Attempt, and the Race Across America (RAAM)) won the 20k (3 lap) age 19+ category with a time of 24:37, beating the next age group

competitor by over 2½ minutes, beating the winner of any category by over 1½ minutes, and setting the course record for best time in the event this year. The competitors were staggered by 30 second intervals, and Patrick estimates that he passed at least two dozen on his 3-lap, 30 mph triumph. See all the details on his Strava event and view all results here.
