President's Corner

Now that I’ve entered my second term as Swami’s president, I’m thinking ahead and wondering what’s next for this amazing club. We’ve developed an excellent and mutually beneficial relationship with Cadence Cyclery. Our weekly rides are going well and events have gone smoothly and been a lot of fun. The Swami’s race team is growing and racking up some podiums in the process. Yet, a club is nothing without its members, so I ask all of you: what would you like to see happen? What are we doing well? What could we improve on? What are your ideas for new events or rides? Send me an email at president@swamis.org and let me know your thoughts. I’m very eager to see what you have to say.

8/4 Social Ride

On Sunday, August 4, we're hosting our monthly Swami's Social Ride. It’s a conversationally-paced ride where you can meet long-time as well as new Swami’s members. You can check out all of the details here. A reminder: we now start and finish the Social Rides at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Bressi Ranch (map). Wear a Swami's kit from any year to get a coffee and baked good on Swami’s!

8/31 Rouleur Labor Day Ride

On Saturday, August 31, we’ll join the Rouleur Labor Day Ride, leaving from Rouleur Brewing Company (map) at 8:00 am.

For information about routes and more see our Facebook page and web site as the date approaches!

Get that base pass!

We’ve already begun our San Clemente LSD rides, so make sure you renew your base pass so you don’t need to turn around 20 miles before we get to the donuts! Go to the visitor’s center (map) and make sure you have all the required information - just a driver’s license isn’t enough. If you don’t have a RealID you also need one of the following in addition to your driver’s license: US passport, US passport card, US permanent resident card, certificate of naturalization, or both your Social Security card and birth certificate. More information about visitor center hours and access is here

As a reminder, on rides through Camp Pendleton make sure you have another form of identification with you in addition to your base pass, such as a driver's license. Even though it's not their official policy, some guards have asked the group to show their IDs.

Swami's Cycling Team

The Swami’s Cycling Team closed out its season with competitive showings in the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix (results) on July 14 and the Costa Mesa Grand Prix (results) on July 24! Team Captain Scott Claes finished 4th at Manhattan Beach, and 7th at Costa Mesa, both in the Masters 60+ category. Congratulations to Scott and the team - we’re anticipating many podiums in 2025!
