Fellow Swami's members, we have great things to tell you about as Spring gets going! The Hoppy Hour ride, also known as the most fun thing you can do on a Wednesday, is back! Team E11even rubbed elbows with some heavy hitters during their recent training camp - read all about it. And there's more on the upcoming kit order window, contributing to Padres Pedal the Cause, and yet another member discount for you! See you on the road!

3/5 Social Ride

On Sunday, March 5, we're hosting our monthly Swami's Social Ride. It’s a conversationally-paced ride where you can meet long-time as well as new Swamis. The ride starts and ends at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Bressi Ranch (map). You can check out all of the details here. Wear a Swami's kit from any year to get a free pastry and coffee or drink of your choice.

3/15 Hoppy Hour Ride Returns!

With the return of Daylight Savings Time, one of our most fun and intense rides is back! Our first Hoppy Hour ride of 2023 will take place on Wednesday, March 15, rolling from Rouleur Brewery in Carlsbad (map) at 5:30 pm. After this challenging 19 mile loop, you’ll feel like you need a drink, and you'll be in luck, because if you wear your Swami’s kit, the first beer at Rouleur after the ride is on us! Pedaling for a higher cause

The Padres Pedal the Cause ride will be held on Saturday, March 18, and there’s still time for you to support the Swami’s team, a group of dedicated members who are riding together in the name of fellow cyclists who can no longer ride because of cancer. One hundred percent of every dollar raised goes to fund collaborative research among San Diego's top research institutions. With over $18 million raised to date, Padres Pedal the Cause has already funded over 80 innovative research grants in all types of cancer.

Training and winning with Team E11even

Team e11even members headed out to Tucson the last weekend of February to put in some dedicated training miles. The timing was perfect, as Arizona largely avoided the storms that were pounding SoCal. Some snow fell Sunday morning, but by noon the roads were mostly dry, letting the team put in another four hours - though attempts up Mt. Lemmon would have to wait until next time.

The highlight of the camp was meeting acquaintances and riding with them up to Helmet Peak, in eastern Tucson. The team jumped on the Saturday group ride, known as “the Shootout," and got beat up by some really strong cyclists, including Trek-Segafredo pro rider Quinn Simmons, Belgian Waffle Ride 2022 winner Alexey Vermeulen, Jumbo-Visma Development rider Colby Simmons, and 2nd Place 2022 Unbound Gravel 200 winner Keegan Swenson. Rounding out the training camp were great cafe stops, a really nice bike path circumnavigating the city, and an amazing cycling vibe.

Also, Swami's and Team e11even member Eric Baker braved the cold, damp Majestic Criterium on Sunday 2/26 and scored a 3rd place in the 60+ age group! Congratulations Eric for Team e11even's first podium of the season!
