Jewel Throne's lyrics address personal struggles and the state of the world, while their music avoids relying on a fixed formula. Their arrangements range from stripped-back passages to densely layered guitars, bass, and vocals, allowing each song to develop its own character. The current lineup has been together since 2020. Bassist Mika Sallanen writes the majority of the band's music, while vocalist Jesse Huovinen handles most of the lyrics. Guitarist Toni Koskinen also contributes to the songwriting, with the full band — including drummer Jouni Kurikka — involved in arranging and refining the material. With The Obsidian Sculptor, Jewel Throne continue to develop the sound they have built since their formation, bringing together death/thrash aggression, melodic detail and a collaborative approach to songwriting.
