Recorded live at Liquid Aether Audio and mastered under the direction of Mario Dahmen, the album captures an organic and dynamic feel. Media Reactions to Erneuerung so far:

“The album is imbued with a dark and cinematic atmosphere, and the band’s experimental black metal sound is at times reminiscent of Dodheimsgard.” Metalized - DK

“Akantophis plays a style of black metal that is very modern,  atmospheric, and dissonant-sounding, as well as adding in a touch of death metal to create a sound of their own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics have realistic  themes.” occultblackmetalzine

“Erneuerung is a disturbing yet impressive album that does not fit into the classic black metal mold. While navigating the dark boundaries of the genre, Akantophis offers a deep narrative with both melodic structures and dystopian atmosphere. This is a work that reminds us that black metal is not only an “attack” but also a form of inner transformation. An unmissable experience for those who like albums that challenge their minds, not their ears.”- Pitstopmetal Erneuerung - Review by PitStop - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives

“It’s truly brilliant stuff. Highly recommended” - Legacy Magazine

AKANTOPHIS is a German black metal band with a modern, atmospheric, and dissonant sound. Their approach leans progressive, with a dense dystopian atmosphere and touches of death metal, a combination that sits outside any easy genre classification. For them, black metal is less about aggression than about inner transformation and artistic renewal.

Founded in 1998, the band had a stable line-up by mid-2000. A year later, Galaria: Terra@ Exitus put them on the underground map. Live im Klima followed, adding four new tracks alongside live material. By 2004, they'd gone on hiatus — personal circumstances, and a period spent exploring other projects, including HIDDEN IN THE FOG, THROAT CUT, and PSYKRA.

They returned in April 2017 with a slightly altered line-up. Wiederkehr, a 7-inch vinyl, came out in 2018. EXITUS XX (MCD, 2020) closed out the band's earlier chapter and pointed toward what was next. Their current album is the result, and the one they believe can bring them to a wider audience.
